The Story of a Mother When a child dies it is and has always been a major tragedy for the mother of the child. However, H.C. Andersen's fairy-tale is missing a very important aspect of our time: Why did the child die? At the time when the fairy-tale was written, death was a risk that everybody had to consider - even children. Today medicine is highly developed and therefore we only die for certain reasons. On of the reasons is represented in my painting: A drunk driver has killed the child. Destiny, as well as the mother, can not fight these kinds of things - nor today nor at the time when the fairy-tale was written. |
