The Little Match-Seller
(30X40 cm) 1997
It is not always easy to modernize H.C. Andersen's
fairy-tales. The Little Match-Seller is a good example of that.
On my painting, the
little match-seller is not feeling cold because of the cold weather, but because she
needs the feeling of security and confidence. In H.C. Andersen's fairy-tale the
girl is dreaming of a sparkling Christmas tree and a kind and lovely
grandmother. Today children of divorced parents are dreaming about a life with
mom and dad. However, both lots are tragic.
